Get Good Tips in Concrete Surface Preparation Including Steel Surface

Hi everyone!  I just can't wait to share the next tip on getting long term results of concrete roof repairs! This tip is useful in repair of concrete roof that is damaged by corrosion of steel reinforcement bars.

The key is to prevent water leakage i.e. no water seepage in concrete roof. First, you need to remove all loose cracked concrete from the underside of the concrete roof slab. Remove them until reaching the hard good concrete including those behind the steel reinforcement bars.

Then clean the steel reinforcement bars from rust until they become bright. It can be done using a wire-brush or using mechanical tools. Take note to clean the whole circumference of the steel reinforcement bars. But if the cleaned bars have lost more than 10% of the cross-sectional area of bars, it is better to replace with new steel reinforcement bars.

Lapping of new steel reinforcement bars with existing steel reinforcement bars is a better choice than welding. Welding uses heat and may cause fire if not done according to good standard practice.

After that, clean the parent concrete and steel reinforcement bars from dirt and all debris using high pressure water jet. Now the concrete and steel reinforcement bars are ready to receive the next treatment in concrete roof repairs.
